Spanish renewables company Capital Energy has submitted plans to Spanish authorities to build a €2bn floating wind farm off the northwest coast of Spain, Nova News reports.

The so-called Breogán development would consist of 34 turbines, each with an output of at least 15MW, giving a total generating capacity of 510MW.

The farm would be located offshore from A Coruña in Galicia. The turbines and their semi-submersible, cable-anchored platforms would be assembled in the nearby port of Langosteira.

The project is one element of an €8bn programme of proposed windfarms presented by Capital to Spain’s Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge earlier this month.

Other sites may include Volanteiro in the province of Pontevedra, also in northwest Spain, Girona off the coast of Barcelona, and the Canary Islands.

The company is undertaking the projects in association with Anglo Dutch energy company Shell and Spain’s BlueFloat Energy.
