Vinci subsidiary Cobra IS has won two major electricity transmission projects in Brazil, together worth more than €1bn.

One is a major PPP contract auctioned by the National Electric Energy Agency (ANEEL).

Valued at €670m, the contract sees Cobra finance, build and operate six 500kV transmission lines stretching a combined 1,020km in length in the state of Minas Gerais near Sao Paolo.

It also includes four further stretches of transmission lines totalling 63km, a new substation and eight substation extensions.

Vinci says more than 5,000 people will work on the project, which is scheduled to complete by the end of 2027. The operation and maintenance period will run for 30 years.

The second is a design-build contract worth €386m to install 980km of transmission lines elsewhere in Minas Gerais near Espírito Santo, plus three new substations and five substation extensions.

Some 4,900 people will work on the project, which is also scheduled for completion by the end of 2027.

In the last 20 years Cobra has installed around 32,000km of transmission lines in Brazil.
