Auckland Light Rail and Waka Kotahi have announced two bidders for the development of next phase of the Auckland light rail public-private (PPP) project and the Waitematā Harbor connection PPP project in New Zealand.

Both projects aim to expand the rapid transit system, which better connects road, rail, bus, walking and cycling routes. Waka Kotahi along with other councils has selected an alliance of four companies, WSP, Beca, SYSTRA and COX Architecture for the Waitematā Harbor connection PPP project and Aurecon and Arup for the Auckland light rail PPP project. The preferred bidders will be responsible for planning and designing the next phases of their respective projects.

While the Waitematā Harbor Connections PPP project includes connections for all modes of transport that are being explored to address climate change. Atkins NZ (SNC-Lavalin) will assist Aurecon and Arup to develop ways to operate and maintain light rail, whereas law firms Buddle Findlay and Simpson Grierson will advance legal work for Oakland's light rail.
