Contract worth approximately EUR 200 million for joint venture
HOCHTIEF has been awarded another contract by Autobahn GmbH des Bundes for the expansion of the A1 highway in Leverkusen. Under the leadership of HOCHTIEF, a joint venture with partner Zwickauer Sonderstahlbau will expand the A1 in Leverkusen to eight lanes on a 2.5-kilometer-long stretch between the Rhine Bridge and the Leverkusen interchange. The contract also includes the demolition and new construction of several bridges as well as the construction of road sign bridges in the area of the exit to the A59 highway. The project has a contract value of approximately EUR 200 million. The works started in August and are scheduled to be completed in 2027.
“With our experience and innovation power in structural engineering and road building, we contribute to improving Germany’s transportation infrastructure,” says Edmund Kickertz, Branch Management of HOCHTIEF Infrastructure Germany West. Since the beginning of last year, the company has already been carrying out the construction works for the new A1 Leverkusen Rhine Bridge in the direct vicinity. The first of the two bridge structures is scheduled to be completed by the end of next year.
On the A1, HOCHTIEF is currently also responsible for the new construction of the inner Schwelmetal Bridge in Wuppertal. In addition, with the new construction of the A40 Rhine Bridge in Duisburg, the A7 noise barrier tunnel in Hamburg-Altona and the expansion of the A6 in Heilbronn the company provides for the future improvement of the traffic situation in Germany.
Zwickauer Sonderstahlbau and HOCHTIEF have already cooperated on the Lennetal Bridge on the A45 near Hagen and the Langenfelder Bridge in Hamburg. The two companies are currently building the Kattenohl and Brunsbecke bridges as part of the expansion of the A45.
