Great Lakes Dredge & Dock Co. (GLDD) is almost ready to begin the 2022 beach nourishment project in the Town of Nags Head, North Carolina.
According to the latest update, the beach construction is now expected to take place from July 13 through early September 2022.
“Equipment mobilization is underway and de-mobilization is expected to take place in September,” the town said. “Remember, it is likely the schedule will change over the course of the project.”
The project, taking place over the next two months, includes dredging of approx. 975,000 cubic yards of beach-quality sand and placing it along a 4.5-mile section of oceanfront shoreline.
The work will start from 8031 South Old Oregon Inlet Road (Comfort Inn South) near Mile Post 16 south to Nags Head’s corporate limits abutting Cape Hatteras National Seashore near Mile Post 21.
