ACCIONA completes the pre-assembly and delivery of reverse osmosis racks for the Tseung Kwan O (Hong Kong) desalination plant
5 January 2022
ACCIONA has completed a new milestone in the construction of the Tseung Kwan O desalination plant in Hong Kong, which will desalinate up to 135,000 m3 of water per day to address the challenges posed by climate change and the low levels of rainfall in the city.
The first step was the pre-assembly, in the workshop, of the reverse osmosis racks (first and second step), the Energy Recovery Devices (ERD) and the high-pressure stainless steel piping.
Once the assembly of each module had been completed, they were sent to the plant site on barges for installation in the building, using a special rail and cylinder system for hoisting and pushing.
In total, three deliveries were made of the twelve racks of reverse osmosis membranes (8 in the first step and 4 in the second). The eight racks of the ERDs and part of the high-pressure piping will be delivered to the site in January as part of the fourth and final delivery.
The process of loading, transport, unloading and installation of these elements is a key milestone in the Tseung Kwan O desalination plant project. Its design, construction and operation and maintenance is carried out by ACCIONA together with its partners Jardine Engineering Corporation Limited and China State Construction Engineering Limited.
