Photon unveils plans for 300 MW/3.6 GWh solar-storage combo in Australia

Amsterdam-based renewables developer Photon Energy NV on Wednesday announced plans to develop a 300-MW solar generation project paired with an energy storage system of 3.6 GWh.
The proposed storage capacity would make Photon’s system the largest of its kind in the world, excluding pumped hydro, surpassing the 3-GWh capacity of the Ouarzazate Solar Power Station in Morocco, according to the company.
Photon said it has secured 1,200 hectares (2,965 acres) of land in South Australia to develop the project, which based on preliminary designs, will feature 300 MW of solar with a grid connection capacity of 150 MW.
The company would use the solar and energy storage technology developed by its investee, Australia’s RayGen Resources Pty Ltd.
