Financing for Bangladesh road project secured
14 October 2021
A new finance package is now in place for Bangladesh’s South Asia Sub-regional Economic Cooperation Dhaka-Sylhet Corridor Road Investment Project. The US$1.78 billion loan is being provided by the Asian Development Bank (ADB). A previous $400 million loan was secured for the project in September 2021.
The work will see the 209km route being widened and improved so that it features two lanes in either direction. Included in the project will be the construction of several bridges, overpasses, flyovers and on and off ramps. The existing road alignment will be improved, while new surfacing will also be laid. The project is one of several road works ongoing in Bangladesh at present and will help boost transport and trade in the country.
