Oman's Finance Ministry to consider six projects in 2021
5 March 2021
The Ministry of Finance will undertake feasibility studies for six major projects in this year, one of which is the construction of an additional highway from Thumrait to Salalah under the public-private partnership (PPP) model.
The Ministry, in its monthly bulletin for February, has listed out six PPP projects out of more than 50 project proposals. These were chosen based on the ability to implement the PPP model, the project being in line with Vision Oman 2040 and the fact that these projects would not constitute an additional burden on Oman's general budget, while at the same time, contribute to reduce cost of operational projects with reduced cost of construction. They are as follows:
- Education sector: First package of school buildings project at high demand sites identified by the Ministry of Education.
- Health sector: Creation of dialysis centres to provide high quality services to patients and operation and maintenance of the Addiction Recovery House in Sohar.
- Transport sector: Additional highway next to existing road from Thumrait to Salalah with toll collection and mandatory usage by trucks.
- Ports sector: A fishing port project in Liwa with land owned by the port offered for development in PPP model. A fishing port in Al Musanna to become a multi-purpose sea port.
