Over US$ 63m approved for completion of five road projects in Abuja.

The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved over US$ 63m for the implementation of five road projects in Abuja, Nigeria. This is according to Mohammed Bello, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Bello revealed this while briefing State House correspondents at the end of the weekly meeting of the FEC on the 17th of February 2021.
“The Ministry of the FCT presented five memos at today’s meeting and all have to do with the road infrastructure. Three of the memos concern projects within the FCT itself, and two within the area councils particularly Bwari and Gwagwalada,” said minister Bello.
Road projects in the city center
According to the FCT minister, of the US$ 63m+, approximately US$8.2m were set aside for the provision of an access road to the institutions and research district in Abuja. This is where the , the Legislative and Judiciary Institute, among other public and private organizations are situated.
About US$ 4.4m will be dedicated to the construction of an access road and car park for the rail station, located at Kagini. The access road is meant to link the community to the Kubwa expressway, to enable commuters to use facilities of the rail station and the Abuja light rail. This project will be executed within 12 months.
US$ 39m or it’s thereabouts will support the ongoing construction of the Southern parkway. The road stretches from the National Christian Centre, through the NTA, FCDA facility, crossing Muhammadu Buhari way in Garki, all the way to the ring road in Kaura District. This project is set to be completed within 24 months.
Road projects in Bwari and Gwagwalada
For the area councils, the minister said that about US$ 3.4 was approved for the rehabilitation of the road passing through the Nigerian Law School in Bwari to Kuchiko, and eventually Aja communities. This project he said would be carried out a duration of 18 months.
Additionally, approximately US$ 8.5m was approved for the construction of a feeder road in Gwagwalada satellite town, starting from the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital road, to Kasche resettlement. The road, which is about 15 kilometers long, including a bridge of 50 meters, will be constructed in 16 months’ time.
